I don’t know about you, but I absolutely LOVE the idea of being able to be foundation-free, especially during the spring and summer months. The problem is my complexion tends to have a few minor issues that caused me to be just self-conscious enough to hesitate in taking the “all natural” plunge. In particular, I had some areas on my face with uneven skin tone, mainly due to past sun damage, and my skin can appear some-what dull. Since I have been consistent with my skin care routine the past several months, my skin tone and brightness have improved drastically, but not to the degree I wanted. If you decide to give topical vitamin C a try, keep a couple of things in mind. First, to get the best results, use a serum that contains concentrated vitamin C. There are a lot of lotions and creams with vitamin C in the ingredients, but for best results, look for serums with an actual high concentration of vitamin C. Not all vitamin C serums are created equal! Read reviews, do some research, and see what works for you. (My personal favorite is Avon’s Anew Vitamin C Brightening Serum, which I use on my face, neck, and chest.) Second, as with any skin care product, to get the best results, use it as instructed and use it consistently! Vitamin C is natural and serums are usually gentle enough to be used at least once every day. If your skin tends to be oily, you may want to use it just once a day – use the routine that works best for your skin. You may find you need to adjust how often you use it based on changes in your routine, such as more time in the sun and water during the summer.

And what were my personal results? I am very happy to report that after using the vitamin C serum for a couple of weeks, I am confident enough in my skin’s appearance to use a simple dusting of powder instead of a heavier foundation!
